Formerly a visita of Bangui, it was created a parish on March 17, 1959 with Fr. Leonidas Oandasan as the first pastor. When Archbishop Juan C. Sison came for the canonical erection in the northernmost tip of his domain, he declared the parish church as the Diocesan Shrine of St. Jude Thaddeus, who had become popular among devotees. When the Diocese of Laoag was erected, it can be said that it is now the Regional Shrine of the Miraculous Apostle, in keeping with the intention of Archbishop Sison of making Pagudpud a pilgrimage site for the faithful within the former large territory of the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia. Two years later, Fr. Oandasan founded the St. Jude High School under the administration of the Religious of the Virgin Mary. In 1966, the diocesan celebration of Christ the King was held for the first time in the parish and was repeated 29 years later in 1995.
